Picture of Author Author Name
Jamaican-born author Claude McKay's 1928 novel HOME TO HARLEM was compared to NIGGER HEAVEN in nearly every review. McKay himself was frustrated by the comparison, and insisted that he had not read Van Vechten's novel before he started his own. The novels were alike only in that they both emphasized some racier aspects of Harlem life.
