A Harlequin term. A tribe is any group of people who are  aware of – and often resist – the power of the Vast Machine . Some tribe members attempt to live off the grid .

Others grow or distribute non-industrial food, create music or art that reflects their beliefs or form communities that are – to varying degrees – apart from the Machine. (see New Harmony)
