(linked to Archivist Note and Litteratura Scura)

There is a long tradition of litteratura scura about the Travelers, the Harlequins and the Brethren, but these books and manuscripts have been stored in hundreds of different locations. Most sources are hidden in private collections or kept in a locked section of the Vatican Library. In previous generations, any scholar studying this secret history would have needed unlimited funds, international political connections and a small army of research assistants.

The expansion of the Internet in the 1980s changed Fourth Realm research forever. With a short period of time, people all over the world had equal access to a massive and freely shared data base. Manuscripts, letters and diaries concerning the Fourth Realm were removed from storage areas (sometimes, this was done without official permission). These materials were scanned and turned into digital cyber information.

In the past, both commercial and academic publishers have refused to print books and articles about the Fourth Realm. For example, anything written about the Travelers was placed in the same category as perpetual motion machines and creatures from outer space. Indeed, a small but vocal group of experts believe the rumors concerning UFOs and "the little men from Mars" were fictions created by the Evergreen Foundation to discredit legitimate Fourth Realm research.

The Internet circumvented this censorship. Fourth Realm researchers either published on their own sites or contributed to general sites designed by committed sympathizers. Anyone with a computer and a modem could quickly gain access to data and analysis that would have been the "dark literature" of a previous era.

Virtually all the information in this encyclopedia came from websites dedicated to investigating the Fourth Realm, the Travelers, the Harlequins and the Brethren. Titles and authors are given for the few published books used as sources.
