Mother Blessing

An Irish Harlequin. Under the name Anne Marie Kelly, she was born in County Cavan in 1955 to a family with Harlequin ancestors. She assumed her Harlequin name at the age of ten and was immediately involved with the murder of a Thomas Sullivan – a church deacon and informant for the Brethren. Sullivan was shot by the young Mother Blessing in the middle of his church in West Dublin while making preparations for a confirmation ceremony.

As she grew older and increased her skills, Mother Blessing gained a worldwide reputation among the Brethren for her complete lack of fear and the viciousness of her attacks. Although she had a friendly relationship with Harlequins Thorn and Linden, she always operated alone and seemed to enjoy situations where she was outnumbered by Tabula mercenaries.

In 1986, Mother Blessing was in Sicily when the Traveler, Giovanni Scapetta, was kidnapped by Mafioso working on contract for the Tabulas. Using two Uzi submachine guns, Mother Blessing shot up an entire village, killing nine men and wounding four others in a ten-minute period. Scapetta was wounded during the battle and bled to death in Mother Blessing’s car as they were fleeing the police. Currently, a roadside chapel outside of the city of Palermo now features a crude painting of Mother Blessing. Candles are burned to the image by Sicilians trying to propitiate the so-called Angel of Death.

Mother Blessing’s reluctance to work with other Harlequins, kept her from getting killed in the North-West Frontier Incident. Believing that a traitor had infiltrated the ranks of the Harlequins (see Shepherd), she completely severed ties with her former associates. The Irish Harlequin spent the last year of her life guarding the Traveler, Matthew Corrigan. She was killed during a 2007 attack on the Tabula’s computer center in Berlin.
