Lynn Davis was commisioned to take photographs of monuments across Africa specifically for this book written by Henry Louis Gates, Jr. as the companion to his PBS series of the same name. The images, a small sampling of which you can see here below, appear in the richly produced book alone and were not part of the television series. Lynn Davis has won international acclaim for her photographs of sacred sites and landscapes all over the world.
