"Central Maine contains numerous paper mills along the banks of its rivers, like this one in Winslow. Charlie Whiting, the last of the family to run all three mills in its "empire," liked to sit on the top floor of his textile mill and look up-river to see smoke billowing reassuringly from the chimney of his paper mill."
