From the Author:
I carry a small Olympus instamatic with me pretty much everywhere
and these are some of the pictures I've taken over the years. I seem to snap
pictures on the fly, through the windshields of cars while I'm driving, at
my feet as I walk along a rocky beach, the view out the screen window of a
guest room where I'll spend one night, or of my family and friends the moment
they are turning away, of their hair being blown by the wind. I like to take
pictures at night, though only a small percentage of these come out. And of
the changes in the sky, and light on water. I also take pictures while I'm
watching movies. I like seeing movement in a picture and the contradiction of having it frozen.
These pictures were not taken to illustrate the text. They accompany
it to show some of the visual flashes which the characters in Rapture might
be seeing, as they muse over their troubled history this one afternoon in a
New York bed. They are some of the aimless images which appear for no reason
in one's head during sex.
