WaterBrook Press author Jim Henderson received the winning bid for the attention and thoughts of atheist Hemant Mehta in early February 2006. Henderson's company, Off The Map, entered the bidding and won. "We spent our entire marketing budget for 2006 ($504) to buy his atheistic attention..." Off The Map has been paying people to "go to church" and provide feedback for over five years.
In April 2007, WaterBrook Press published the findings of atheist Hemant Mehta in his book I Sold My Soul on eBay. More information on the book can be found at www.isoldmysoulonebaybook.com
Liz Curtis Higgs Honored with her First Christy Nomination and Award Author’s novel recognized for excellence in historical fiction
In an awards dinner held Saturday evening, July 8, 2006, at the Denver Marriott City Center, bestselling nonfiction and fiction author Liz Curtis Higgs was named the 2006 Christy Award winner in the Historical category for her novel Whence Came a Prince (WaterBrook Press, a division of Random House, Inc., March 2005).
Whence Came a Prince is the final installment in the trilogy of historical novels that began with Thorn in My Heart and Fair Is the Rose. The books parallel biblical stories of characters from Genesis, reset in 18th- and 19th-century Scotland.
“Every book is a labor of love, but Whence Came a Prince was especially so, knowing my readers were waiting none-too-patiently for the final installment,” said Higgs. “The longest novel of the trilogy, Prince required the most research, and from an emotional standpoint, was the hardest to write…Yet those projects which are the hardest to produce often bear the most fruit.”
“Liz is a most-talented writer,” said Steve Cobb, President of WaterBrook Press. “Her nonfiction and fiction work has for many years been recognized as some of the best in the industry. We are so grateful for this well-deserved recognition for Liz, and we are continually honored to have her as part of the WaterBrook family.”
Critics are impressed by the emotional intensity and depth of research found in Higgs’s historical writing. Christian Retailing said of Whence Came a Prince, “This delightful finale includes the same accuracy of historical Scotland found in its predecessors and will continue to open readers’ eyes anew to the truths found in this biblical story.”
Higgs’s love for Scotland is the focus of a new nonfiction
book she has written, set to release next year, My Heart’s
in the Lowlands: Ten Days in Bonny Scotland (WaterBrook Press,
February 2007). This travel memoir evokes the hidden treasures
of her beloved Lowlands, from tearooms and bookshops to quaint
villages and crumbling castles, depicting the Scottish countryside
and people as only a well-seasoned traveler and skillful storyteller
can. Releasing this fall is Higgs’s first nonfiction book
in five years, Embrace Grace (WaterBrook Press, September 2006),
presenting a practical guide to letting go of the past, drawing
on the Bible and the stories of real-life women to demonstrate
that God’s forgiveness sets people free to forgive themselves
and others.
