Peter CareyPeter Carey was born in Australia in 1943, and received a degree from Monash University in Clayton, Victoria in 1961. He began publishing his fiction in the late 1970s and worked in advertising until 1988. He was awarded the Book of the Year Award in 1985 and 1994, and the Booker Prize for Oscar and Lucinda in 1988. Peter Carey is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. He now lives in New York City.
