Dear What if... Reader,

Thank you for showing Haley Miller the time of her life. You've helped her make a world of choices, from what to wear to school (Not always as easy a choice as you'd think!) to whether or not to get into a car with a driver who's been drinking. You've shown her how to be a caring daughter, a loving sister and a cherished friend. You've been the one to witness her first experiences with falling in love and you've helped her navigate the confusing trials and tribulations that come with the ever-mysterious nature of high school boys.

Haley Miller's been your little project. So what's it been like for you? Have you steered her away from the pitfalls of peer pressure? Or led her into the vortex of bad boys and raging parties? Have you given Haley countless makeovers to force her to fit in? Or have you loved her exactly the way she is? Deep down, which crowd do you really think Haley's best suited for? Sasha, Coco, Whitney, Annie and Irene all thank you for bringing Haley into their very different lives. After all, you've changed the way Haley Miller works, loves and plays at Hillsdale High. For better... or for worse.... You have determined her destiny.

The What if... Books are about learning to be true to yourself, one choice at a time. It's about being brave when you're making hard decisions. It's about listening to your own voice, not going along with the crowd, but always protecting your integrity and choosing what's right for you. We all fear those looming dead ends out there-- the humiliation of a public misstep, the embarrassment of not fitting in or the endless worry about getting your heart broken if you put yourself out there. Some choices can be pretty intimidating, but facing the challenge is always worth it in the end. Even within the smallest choice lies a great opportunity to make positive change in your life and the lives of others.

Asking yourself What if... is about dreaming big, aspiring for a better tomorrow. It's also about being patient and holding out for the best possible path to take, trusting yourself when you know something doesn't feel quite right.

When we’ve met many of you at our readings and book signings, you always inspire us to keep writing more books. You remind us how unique every What if... girl out there is. Each of you has a beautiful destiny, all your own, that you're already exploring at this very moment whether you realize it or not. So choose wisely. And remember, no matter how many times you hit a dead end and have to start all over from the beginning, it's not the end of the world. Just try doing things a little differently the next time. Above all else, don't fear making the tough choices. The best things in life often come out of the scariest questions.

We can't thank you enough for sharing Haley's adventures at Hillsdale High with us. Reese, Devon, Spencer and Alex all thank you whole heartedly for your enthusiastic support. And so do we!

Best wishes,
Sara & Liz
