Fly On The Wall
At the Manhattan School
for Art and Music, where everyone is “different” and
everyone is “special,” Gretchen Yee feels ordinary.
She’s the kind of girl who sits alone at lunch, drawing
pictures of Spider-Man, so she won’t have to talk
to anyone; who has a crush on Titus but won’t do
anything about it; who has no one to hang out with when
her best (and only real) friend Katya is busy.
One day, Gretchen wishes that she could be a fly on the
wall in the boys’ locker
room–just to learn more about guys. What are they really like? What
do they really talk about? Are they really cretins most of the time?
Fly on the Wall is the story of how that wish
comes true. What
is YOUR fly style? Take the quiz and find out! |

The Boyfriend List
Ruby Oliver is 15 and has a shrink.
She knows it’s
unusual, but give her a break—she’s had a rough
10 days. In the past 10 days she:
lost her boyfriend (#13 on the list), lost her best friend
(Kim), lost all her other friends (Nora, Cricket), did something
suspicious with a boy (#10), did something advanced with a
boy (#15), had an argument with a boy (#14), drank her first
beer (someone handed it to her), got caught by her mom (ag!),
had a panic attack (scary), failed a math test (she’ll
make it up), became a social outcast (no one to sit with
at lunch), and had graffiti written about her in the girls’ bathroom
(who knows what was in the boys’!?!). But don’t worry—Ruby lives
to tell the tale. And make more lists.

boyfriend do you have? Take the quiz! |

The Boy Book
Here is how things stand at the beginning of
Ruby Oliver's junior year:
• Kim: Not speaking. But far away in Tokyo.
• Cricket: Not speaking.
• Nora: Speaking--sort of. Chatted a couple times this summer when they
bumped into each other outside of school--once shopping in the U District, and
once in the Elliot Bay Bookstore. But she hadn't called Ruby, or anything.
• Noel: Didn't care what anyone thinks.
• Meghan: Didn't have any other friends.
• Dr. Z: Speaking.
• And Jackson. The big one. Not speaking. But, by Winter Break, many changes and decisions
help Ruby to see that there is, indeed, life outside the
Tate
Universe.

Not Like I'm Jealous Or Anything
We’ve all been there. We’ve all felt that
pang. It’s hard to stop the “green-eyed monster” once
it rears its ugly head. We asked 13 writers to share their
visions of jealousy and this collection of short stories,
essays, and one poem was their response. What is your jealousy quotient? Take the quiz and find out!
