Magic Tree House
Junie B. Jones
An idyllic summer job turns into a summer of horrors for Jamie. Hired as an au pair for a wealthy family, Jamie soon learns that she looks similar to the previous au pair who was killed in an accident the year before. Her eleven-year-old charge, Isa, is an old soul with a penchant for living in a fantasy world. It doesn’t help that the old mansion seems to be full of ghosts and other strange happenings. Jamie’s answer to her own sleepless nights and strange moods is an eclectic mix of drugs she took from her parents’ medicine cabinet, which only serve to add to her sense of unreality. The return of a prodigal son and Jamie’s sightings of two dead teenagers make for some interesting island talk as she tries to fit in with the local crowd. The startling conclusion will leave you wanting to reread the story again to see what you missed!
