The Stone Girl

By: Alyssa B. Sheinmel

BOOK TALK

Attempting to keep up with her Uptown, private school lifestyle, Sethie’s worst enemy turns out to be herself.  With an inattentive mother, a negligent sort-of boyfriend, and pressure to get into the “right” college, abusive eating habits begin to emerge (along with a variety of other abuses.) Sethie’s perception of herself is all out of whack. For such an intelligent young woman, she seems amazingly obtuse about her personal world. Can her friends save her from herself? Or will she have to come to her own rescue? A modern story set in the world of the wealthy and privileged in New York City.
