The Running Dream

By: Wendelin Van Draanen

BOOK TALK

After losing her leg in an accident on the way to a track meet, star runner, Jessica, is at a loss for what she will do with her life. Her hopes and plans and dreams were all lost with her leg. She frequently dreams of running, but always wakes up before she reaches the finish line so it is more like a nightmare to Jessica. Her parents and friends can’t help her regain the hope she needs, but her coach comes up with a plan to help her run again – a running prostheses. The track team goes into full fund raising mode to help earn the twenty thousand dollars needed to buy Jessica the running leg. Can a “fake leg with a spring foot” really make Jessica a runner again?
