The Queen of Water

By: Laura Resau and Maria Virginia Farinango

Book Talk

When Virginia is only seven years old, her poor indígena family allows her to be taken from them to be a servant for a family from the ruling class. However, the family does not allow Virginia to visit her family; neither do they pay them the agreed upon price for Virginia’s service to them. Lost to her family and raised by abusive masters, Virginia comes to feel shame for her heritage and longs to be free. However, when the opportunity presents itself for Virginia to return to her family, she feels uncomfortable and out of place. How does Virginia eventually win the crown of Queen of Water and become a spokesperson for her forgotten heritage?
