The Midnight Dress Book Talk

By: Karen Foxlee

BOOK TALK

Rose and her father never stay in one place very long. Barely long enough for social services to track them, and definitely not long enough to fit in and make friends. But all that changes when they roll into the small town of Leonora. Her dad stops drinking, finds a job, and makes a few friends. So Rose starts to do the same, and meets Pearl. Soon, the two girls are doing everything together, including planning their dresses for the annual Harvest Festival. Pearl convinces Rose to seek out eccentric dressmaker Edie Baker (is she really the town witch?) who is willing to make Rose a dress for free. And what a dress it is indeed. A beautiful midnight blue dress unlike anything the other girls will have. Is the dress itself magic? Or haunted? Or is it just a tragic twist of fate that will lead to the mysterious disappearance of one girl by the end of the Festival?
