Magic Tree House
Junie B. Jones
Despite her title--Lady Eleanor Rodriguez, Countess of San Jaime--Ellie is penniless. And her alchemist father, Sir Arthur Hutton, has worn out their welcome in most of the respectable houses in Dorset. Elizabethan England is not looking inviting for the Huttons, until Lord Mountjoy – a fan of alchemy – invites them to stay in his home. As luck would have it, William Lacey, Earl of Dorset, the very boy who kicked Ellie and her father out of his house when his father died, is visiting the Mountjoy estate. His family was left in financial ruin because of the money spent on the alchemist’s experiments, and Will, now a man, must find a wealthy bride whose dowry can restore the families finery. When Ellie and Will meet again, she is ready to hate him. Instead there is more chemistry between them then in her father’s experiments. Duty, however, compels Will to propose to wealthy Lady Jane Percival, leaving Ellie to struggle with both her emotions and a series of devastating events that befall her.
