BOOK TALK
After being “discovered,” Margaret leaves the safety of her home in Pasadena and the snobby finishing school she attends for the glitz of Hollywood. She arrives an innocent hopeful, but soon learns that heartbreak surrounds her and broken lives litter the streets. As Margaret chases her dream to become a movie star, she soon learns the harsh reality of fame and the price she will have to pay to be a star. In the 1930s, movie stars were made by studio owners and executives calling all the shots; buying off the press, dictating romance, grooming hopefuls to stardom, and keeping secrets until they became useful. Margaret has some tough decisions to make, especially since she can’t go home.
