Magic Tree House
Junie B. Jones
Can you ever imagine being told to marry a person you do not love, twenty years your elder , someone your parents choose for you simply because he has money and political power? In fifteenth-century Venice, such is the custom, and while Maria understands what the marriage means to her family, she loves the young man who works in the family business. On the other hand, Maria’s older sister, Giovanna, would love to marry the nobleman and live the life he has to offer her; sadly, she is destined to join the convent or marry the man Maria loves. Will these sisters settle for the lives that have been chosen for them, or will they find a way to circumvent their parents’ plan in order to be happy?
