Kindness for Weakness

By: Shawn Goodman

BOOK TALK

James just wants to belong somewhere. And it doesn’t seem to be with his mom and her abusive boyfriend, Ron. His brother, Louis, walked out two years ago leaving 13-year-old James behind. Right now, his only sanctuary is Mr. Pfeffer’s English class. Not a teenager’s dream, but at least someplace to provide hope. When Louis needs his help, James is anxious to gain his brother’s respect, despite knowing what he’s doing is illegal. The plan blows up when James is busted and Louis abandons him to the cops. Now it appears James’only chance to belong anywhere will be in juvie.
