BOOK TALK

Gangsters. Jazz Clubs. Speakeasies. Flappers. Deception. Murder. They weren’t called the Roaring Twenties for nothing.  Former friends Gloria, Lorraine and Clara, each go to New York City to start new lives, but find it’s not so easy to escape their Chicago pasts. As Lorraine plays at managing a speakeasy run by Capone’s gangsters, she plots her revenge on Gloria and her black, piano playing boyfriend, Jerome.  But Lorraine’s plan just might backfire. Gloria and Jerome, desperately in love, and desperate to escape the gangsters on their trail, try to make music and a new life in the city, but discover everything isn’t so black and white. Determined to prove to her new flame, Marcus, that she’s sworn off parties and late nights, Clara has a respectable, but decidedly boring, existence in New York. When an opportunity presents itself for her to be both independent, and have a little fun, it’s hard to say no.  With this mix of history, romance and intrigue, the Gossip Girls have nothing on the ingénues in The Flappers series.
