Growing Up Muslim

By: Sumbul Ali-Karamali

BOOK TALK

There are over 1.5 billion Muslim people in the world, and in the United States over 2.5 million Muslims practicing Islam.  Islam is the second largest religion in the world after Christianity, but as a nation we understand so little about Muslim beliefs and practices.  This book is an easy to understand explanation of the daily practices of Islam, the history of the religion and its founder Muhammad, and the beliefs that drive Muslims to worship.  As our country learns to embrace the Muslim people, it is good to understand the religion of Islam and why they pray five times a day, what their religious holidays mean, why they dress the way they do, why they fast for a month during Ramadan, and what they think about dating.  The explanations in this book will give you a better understanding of your Muslim friends and neighbors.
