Dust Girl

By: Sarah Zettel

BOOK TALK

In the Dust Bowl of Kansas in 1935, dust literally covered everything, inside and out. Times were bad everywhere and the hotel that her mother owned barely had any business. She had never met her father, but her mother refused to leave the rundown town in the hopes of his return. When Callie sits at her father’s piano and plays spectacularly the very first time, the music transcends their harsh surroundings and sets in motion a strange set of events.  First, her mother disappears and then Callie is chased by strange, magical creatures. She doesn’t know where to go or who to trust.  Discovering that she is half fairy helps to explain what is going on. Half of the magical world is trying to find her to reunite her with her royal fairy grandparents and the other half is trying to kill her.  Which side will win? Will she gain control of her newfound magic in time to save herself and her friend?
