Diary of a Parent Trainer

By: Jenny Smith

BOOK TALK

Katie is bound and determined to keep a diary of how she trains the grown-ups in her life.  She has studied the operating modes of grown-ups and gives readers tips on how to maximize the efficiency of your grown-up in order to get the most out of any situation.  For example, Katie has identified Angry Mode, Doing something Nice Mode, Worried Mode, Stressed Mode, and Sick Mode plus a few more, and she states The “Sad but True Facts” about each mode.  However, when Katie’s mother begins dating Stanley, she changes and none of the modes run true to form anymore.  This leads Katie to study and discuss the Smitten Mode.  In the middle of her grown-ups’ drama, Katie finds herself in a mess with her friends that leaves her out in the cold.  Clearly, Katie needs a training manual for herself.
