Daughter of Xanadu

By: Dori Jones Yang

BOOK TALK

In a world where girls born of wealth are meant to marry and be good wives, Emmajin wants to be a warrior, but convincing her grandfather, Khan Khubilia, the 13th century Mongolian leader, will take some doing. Despite her sex, Emmajin is skilled in archery, riding and fighting, all traits needed in battle. When a Latin merchant arrives to discover the secrets of the East, Emmajin is assigned by Khan to discover Marco Polo’s secrets. Traveling China with Marco shows Emmajin a different perspective of the world -- one where becoming a fierce warrior might not be so appealing.
