Amos Daragon #1: The Mask Wearer

By: Bryan Perro
translated from the French by: Y. Maudet

Book Talk

Born to talented craftspeople, Amos Daragon’s family was the poorest in Lord Edonf’s entire kingdom. The greedy Lord taxed his townspeople so heavily, many could barely survive.  Amos’s family was no exception. When Amos turns twelve, however, things begin to change. Witnessing the death of a mermaid, Amos is entrusted with a mask and asked to spread the news of the mermaid’s death.  With his task now set before him, Amos must travel to the woods of Tarkasis and find Gwenfadrille, friend of the mermaid, and tell her he is to become the new mask wearer. The only problem? Amos has no idea what a mask wearer is, nor whether or not he wishes to be one. As he begins his quest, he comes face-to-face with a wicked sorcerer, a boy who can morph into a bear, and a beautiful, snake-haired gorgon. Are they friends or foes? Will Amos finally learn what the job of mask wearer is or will he be betrayed by someone he thought was his friend, and never be given the chance to live up to his destiny?
