Alberic the Wise and Other Journeys

By: Norton Juster
illustrated by: Domenico Gnoli

BOOK TALK

With rich language to wrap your thoughts around, these three short stories read more like cautionary tales.  Discover what changes an average man into an honored wise man. After listening to the tales of an elderly traveler, Alberic decides to leave his small farm in search of the wonders of the world.  His serendipitous adventure changes his destiny.  In the second story, young Claude cares about nothing and no one until he finds himself mysteriously involved in the plight of a young lady of noble birth.  The third narrative chronicles two completely different kings and what they discover about themselves as they go in search of what they do not have.  All three tales reveal that things are not always what they seem.
