A Time of Miracles

By: Anne-Laure Bondoux
translated from the French by: Y. Maudet

BOOK TALK

As a young boy, Blaise loves to hear the story of how his adopted mother, Gloria, came to find him and take him as her own son.  This story keeps hope alive in Blaise and Gloria as they attempt to flee the Soviet Union’s political unrest to freedom in France.  The two set out on foot and during their five-year journey west, they meet many other refugees and make new acquaintances. Finally, Blaise makes it to France only to discover that Gloria did not arrive with him.  For years he dreams of finding her, but it is only after he receives his French citizenship, that he receives a letter informing him of Gloria’s location. Blaise sets out on a new journey to discover the truth, but what he uncovers is more than he bargained for.
