With the tenth anniversary of September 11th upon us, this YA novel is a moving depiction of the aftermath of a town struck with the tragedy of 9/11.  It’s 2001 and the town of Blackwater, PA is overtaken by the tragedy of the nearby United Flight 93 crash.  Meth addiction is spreading quickly with ferocity and a velocity that is overwhelming everyone.  High School senior Tom tries to focus on school and getting out of the depressing coal mining town, but with the constant reminder of the selfless heroism of the avengers in his mind and heart, Tom begins to see some reasons to stay.  Readers will be fighting along with Tom with every turn of the page.  This stunning novel by Edward Bloor will remind young adults that importance of perseverance and that even lost causes are worth fighting for.
