Mountains Beyond Mountains

By: by Tracy Kidder, adapted for young people by Michael French

BOOK TALK

Mountains Beyond Mountains introduces Dr. Paul Farmer, a remarkable man who spends his time treating the illnesses of the poor and disenfranchised.  Working in impossible circumstances, he travels the globe.  From the poorest of poor in Haiti, to Moscow’s Central Prison in Russia, to an obscure outpost in Siberia, to the slums of Lima, Peru, Dr. Farmer works to establish medical facilities and public health systems. In Haiti, Dr. Famer built Zanmi Lasante, a medical clinic that treated thousands of Haitians.  Dr. Farmer brings attention to the extent of global poverty and serves as an example to those who want to help improve the lives of others.
