A few months ago, we asked educators how they incorporate Magic Tree House books and Magic Tree House Research Guides to help them meet objectives across the curriculum, and were eligible to win a trip to the International Reading Association 2009 Convention in Minneapolis, MN!

Total Grand prize includes:

I. HOW TO ENTER • NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Enter by writing a paragraph of 500 words or less, telling us how you incorporate the Magic Tree House books and Magic Tree House Research Guides to help you meet your objectives across the curriculum. Supplemental materials will also be accepted as they pertain to your entry. Original documents cannot be returned. Print your name, your school name, grade, full address, and phone number on an 8.5 x 11-inch piece of paper, and mail it, along with your paragraph to Magic Tree House Educator of the Year Contest, Random House Inc., 1745 Broadway, 10-4, New York, NY 10019. LIMIT ONE ENTRY PER CLASS. Entries must be mailed separately and received by Random House no earlier than August 1, 2008, and postmarked no later than January 15, 2009. Any entries received before August 1, 2008, or postmarked after January 15, 2009, will be automatically disqualified. Entries must be original. Partially completed or illegible entries will not be accepted. You have the option to enter online at www.randomhouse.com/teachers/magicth. Random House is not responsible for lost, late, mutilated, illegible, stolen, postage-due, incomplete or misdirected entries. All entries become the property of Random House and will not be returned, so please keep a copy for your records.

II. ELIGIBILITY • Contest is open to teachers of first, second, third, and fourth grade classes at schools located in the 50 states, or the District of Columbia, and Canada, excluding the Province of Quebec. All federal, state, and local laws and regulations apply. Void wherever prohibited or restricted by law. Employees of Random House, Inc., and their parent companies, assigns, subsidiaries or affiliates, and advertising, promotion, and fulfillment agencies; their immediate family members, and persons living in their household are not eligible to enter this contest.

III. PRIZES • One (1) grand prize winner will win a trip to the International Reading Association 2009 convention in Minneapolis, MN on May 3-7, 2009 (to accept the award and have breakfast with Mary Pope Osborne and Natalie Pope Boyce) and $500 worth of Random House Children’s Books for the classroom, and an autographed set of all the books currently in the Magic Tree House series. Trip includes round-trip coach air transportation for one (1) person from a major commercial airport near winner’s home to Minneapolis, MN; two (2) nights’ lodging (standard accommodations, single occupancy), transfer to and from the airport in Minneapolis, MN, and registration fee for the International Reading Association 2009 convention. Approximate Retail Value (ARV): $1,500. Actual retail value of prize package may vary, depending on the point of departure. All travel arrangements must be made by and confirmed through a travel agent selected by Sponsor.
If winner cannot travel by the dates specified by the sponsor, the prize will be forfeited in its entirety and an alternate Winner will be chosen. Winner will be responsible for all gratuities, meals, ground transportation, and any other incidental costs or expenses not expressly identified in these rules. Travel and use of accommodation are at risk of Winner, and Random House Inc. does not assume any liability. If for any reason a prize is not available or cannot be fulfilled, RANDOM HOUSE RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SUBSTITUTE PRIZES OF EQUAL OR GREATER VALUE. Prizes are not transferable and cannot be assigned. No prize or cash substitutes allowed, except at the discretion of Random House as set forth in these rules.

IV. WINNER • The Winner will be chosen on or around February 9, 2009 from all eligible entries received by the Random House within the entry deadline. Entries will be judged by the staffs of Random House, whose decisions are final, and the prize will be awarded on the basis of originality, style, and creativity. The prize will be awarded in the name of the winning teacher. Winner will be notified by mail and will be required to sign and return affidavit(s) of eligibility and release of liability within 14 days of notification. A noncompliance within that time period or the return of any notification as undeliverable will result in disqualification and the selection of an alternate winner. In the event of any other noncompliance with rules and conditions, prize may be awarded to an alternate winner. Winner will be notified by mail on or about February 16, 2009. Taxes, if any, are the winner's sole responsibility.

V. RESERVATIONS • By participating, entrants, including the teacher and school, agree that Random House, Inc., and their parent companies, assigns, subsidiaries or affiliates, advertising, promotion, fulfillment agencies, and suppliers will have no liability whatsoever, and will be held harmless by entrants for any liability for any injuries, losses, or damages of any kind to person, including death, and property resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from the acceptance, possession, misuse, or use of the prize, or participation in this contest. By entering the Contest the winning teacher consents to the use of the name, likeness, and biographical data or description of the winning teacher, and his or her school for publicity and promotional purposes on behalf of Random House, Inc. with no additional compensation or further permission (except where prohibited by law). Other entry names will NOT be used for subsequent mail solicitation. For the name of the Winner, available after February 16, 2009 please send a stamped, self-addressed envelope to: Random House, Magic Tree House Educator of the Year Contest Winner, 1745 Broadway-10-4, New York, NY 10019. Washington and Vermont residents may omit return postage.
