Twelve-year-old
Jason can't wait to go to California with his family to try out
for his favorite game show Masquerade Mania . Not only
do people get to dress up in crazy costumes for the show, but if
you're chosen for the Hot Box, you also get a chance to answer trivia
questions that could win you cool prizes like video games, movie
tickets, and even trips. Things start to go wrong for Jason even
before they leave their home in Texas . First, his parents tell
him they won't be flying; instead they'll be camping across the
country in a trailer that sits on top of their car and looks like
a big sardine can. If that isn't bad enough, he has to be stuck
in the car with his two sisters, and to top it all off, his mom
dyes all his underwear pink when she washes his clothes at one of
the campsites. Jason thinks all this is a small price to pay to
be on Masquerade Mania , but does he have what it takes
to win big once he gets there?
