The streets
of Vienna are swarming with Nazi soldiers and Jewish families aren't
safe. Stephie and Nellie Steiner are sent to Sweden to await their
parents' escape to Amsterdam, where they will be reunited and make
their way to America. But the situation in Vienna worsens and the
girls seem stuck in their temporary homes. Eight-year-old
Nellie is happy, but twelve-year-old Stephie isn't so lucky.
Her foster mother is cold and uncaring, and to make matters worse,
she has no friends. Does her relationship with her host family change?
Will she ever see her parents again?
