Lucy Rose
isn’t crazy about her parents’ separation, or her new neighborhood,
or her new school. The thing she’s the least crazy about, though,
is Adam Melon, who she has nicknamed “Melonhead.” He goes around
making farting noises and anything else he can think of to annoy
the girls. Luckily, Jonique McBee sits close to her and the two
become friends quickly. The other thing she likes about school is
Jake, the class guinea pig. Lucy Rose wants to watch Jake more than
anything over the school vacation, but someone else is always ahead
of her on the list. Finally, Mr. Welsh agrees to let her keep Jake
the second half of Spring Break. Melonhead has the first half. When
her turn finally comes, she is so excited, she forgets to follow
the rules and lets Jake out of his cage. He quickly disappears into
the house and Lucy Rose has no idea how to catch him. As much as
she doesn’t want to, she calls Melonhead to ask for help. Will Lucy
Rose and Adam be able to catch Jake before her grandparents’ dog
does, or will Lucy Rose be forced to call her teacher with bad news
about Jake?
