Imagine
living in a city that is running out of everything—food, medicine,
even electricity. Ember has no natural lighting—only streetlamps
that continually go out, thrusting the entire city into complete
darkness. Lina and Doon , two teenagers who live in Ember, are convinced
they have found instructions from The Builders, who created the
city, that will help them escape from Ember. When the mayor finds
out, he puts up posters calling for their immediate arrest for spreading
vicious rumors. Lina and Doon quickly find themselves alone, and
unable to trust anyone; they must figure out the mystery of the
instructions on their own.
