Morning
McCobb has just graduated from Leaguer Academy and is looking forward
to a “normal” life in a new city—normal, that is, for a vampire.
Leaguer vampires blend in with “Lifers,” live by their motto “Drink
Culture, not Life”, and survive on animal blood or, in Morning’s
case, a soy substitute called Blood Lite. Luther Birnam, the academy
headmaster, has a vision of the world living openly with vampires.
In preparation for Birnam’s dream of “Worldwide Out Day,” Morning
is chosen to be a guinea pig in an experiment to see if the public
can handle living with a vampire. Morning is deposited in New York
City where a public relations expert is hired to help him educate
the world in the safety of living with modern-day vampires. What
could possibly go wrong? Can Morning convince everyone from talk
show hosts to the nun he grew up with that he is a “safe” vampire?
Can he resist the PR agent’s acerbic daughter? Can he survive a
murder plot by a non-Leaguer vampire who doesn’t agree with Birnam’s
agenda and tries to do away with Morning? Quirky characters, tongue-in-cheek
humor and lots of play on words make for an entertaining read that
middle-schoolers and those older will be clamoring for.
