Sophia and
her mom live alone for years; then her mother marries Juan, a great
aunt from Bosnia comes to live with them, and Pablo, an orphan boy
found crossing the desert, becomes their foster child. Sophia soon
grows accustomed to having family, but becomes fearful they will
all abandon her. Sophia realizes that being afraid of life is no
way to live, so she agrees to accompany her Aunt Dika, Mr. Lorenzo,
and his son Angel to take Pablo back to his family in Mexico. Sophia
must encounter danger and experience her first love before she realizes
that life is meant to be lived to the fullest.
