Lifeguarding
with her boyfriend at the neighborhood pool and hanging with friends
seems like the perfect summer to Emma Freeman. Of course, it’s a
repeat of the others, but Brian is heading off to college next year,
and spending time with him is important. Heck, she’s even given
up a chance at an internship in The Big Apple. But when Brian proves
less than loyal during freshman orientation, Emma decides to take
a chance on a summer in New York City. She and her best friend,
Rachel, find themselves in a parallel, less-sophisticated version
of Sex and the City. Sure they’ve found great digs with
a trust-fund party girl. But what good is that if you don’t have
the right ID or shoes? Sure they’ve both found internships (non-paying
of course), but Emma’s boss is a 40-year-old stuck in frat boy mode.
Sure they’ve both found guys—Rachel’s are an endless parade of Internet
dating nerds, and Emma’s is a perfect coworker who thinks she’s
a college grad. While Emma tries to salvage as much glamour and
fun from her summer as she can, it’s turning into one hot mess.
