17-year-old
Paula has accompanied her father to Istanbul to procure for a wealthy
collector an ancient pagan artifact called “Cybele’s Gift,” worshipped
by the long disbanded cult of Cybele. But searching for this artifact
is fraught with danger and many of the city’s Muslim clerics want
it destroyed as rumors of the cult’s revival within Istanbul persist.
A colleague of her father’s is murdered just before they arrive,
prompting Paula and her father to hire Stoyan, a young and handsome
bodyguard that may know more about “Cybele’s Gift” then he is letting
on. Paula, a young woman from Transylvania, soon finds herself in
the middle of the Ottoman Empire surrounded by pirates, eunuchs,
powerful women, and perilous journeys. What is so dangerous about
“Cybele’s Gift” and what is the secret that it holds? It soon becomes
clear to Paula that she alone must unlock the mystery.
