So my Dad
was sent to prison, big deal. It’s not like he killed someone or
anything. He just stole some money. Okay, a lot of money. Even so,
that doesn’t mean me, Maxey, or my mom had anything to do with it.
Honestly, we didn’t. It sure would help if we had some of the money,
though. Then we could buy name-brand sodas instead of the knockoffs
and a DVD player so we don’t have to borrow one. Anyway, when one
of Mom’s old friends, Father Frank Avila, comes to stay for a while,
I can’t help but wonder how he fits into the picture. Does he know
what happened to the money Dad stole? Is he trying to make a move
on my mom now that Dad’s out of the picture? One thing’s certain.
He’s hiding something and I’ll stop at nothing to find out what
it is, even if it means lying to everyone about what I’m doing.
I’ll figure out just what Father Frank is up to or my name isn’t
Effie Maloney.
