Many of our authors will make school and library visits throughout the year. Please refer to our complete author and illustrator appearance kit.
How do I submit my manuscript to Random House?
We regretfully inform you that because of the volume of materials that are received, we now only accept unsolicited manuscripts only if they are submitted to one of our two contests: The Marguerite de Angeli Contest for a first middle-grade novel, written for children seven to ten years old, and the Delacorte Press Contest for a first young adult novel, written for readers twelve to eighteen years old.
If your work meets the criteria for one of the contests, please submit your text manuscript. Rules and guidelines can be found here: Delacorte Press Contest and The Marguerite de Angeli Contest. You can also make a written request for rules and guidelines; please include a self-addressed stamped envelope.
All other types of manuscripts must be submitted through an agent or at the request of an editor. A list of agents can be found in The Literary Market Place (LMP), published by R. R. Bowker, which is available in the reference section of your local library. Staff members of Random House Children's Books cannot recommend particular agents.
Information for new writers is also available from The Children's Book Council and from The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.
