Nap Time is Nice!

Welcome to the Preschool Book Nook, an informative place invoking those book-filled, cozy corners in classrooms and libraries.

Nap time is nice for preschoolers—and even nicer for the teachers who keep up with them! Soothing bedtime books are perfect for nap time too. The stories—both familiar and unfamiliar—engage the youngest of readers and make them feel safe. The dreamy illustrations spark the imagination and get kids ready for sweet dreams.

Dreamy Fun!

•  Rediscover The Random House Book of Bedtime Stories, now back in print to delight a whole new generation of youngsters. This collection of 21 stories includes tried-and-true standbys such as Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Peter Rabbit , and The Gingerbread Man , alongside unexpected gems from Oscar Wilde, Rudyard Kipling, Margaret Wise Brown, and many others. Read a story from the collection aloud each day before nap time.

•  Lead a class discussion about bedtime rituals. What do students do before getting into bed? What do they wear to sleep? Who tucks them in? Do they have a favorite story or song that they like to hear at night? Have students draw pictures of themselves doing a pre-bedtime ritual.

•  Talk to students about why sleep is important for our health. How do students feel when they don’t get a good night’s sleep? What else can we do to stay healthy?

•  Host a class pajama party and read favorite bedtime stories aloud to your students. Have students bring in a stuffed animal, blanket, or other bedtime memento to share with the class.
