Celebrating Silliness

Welcome to the Preschool Book Nook, an informative place invoking those book-filled, cozy corners in classrooms and libraries.

The best part of being a kid is getting to be silly whenever you want! A silly book or song or poem can set children at ease and even teach a thing or two. In the Max and Pinky books, Maxwell Eaton III is right on target with the silly factor. The books will make kids (and adults!) laugh out loud and celebrate friendship with their best buds.

Use the Max and Pinky books in your preschool!

•  Hold up Best Buds and have students predict what the book is about based on the front cover illustration. Ask students: Who is your best bud? What do you like best about him/her? What do you like to do together?

•  After reading Best Buds to the class, have students draw pictures of themselves on an adventure with their best bud. Hang up the pictures or bind them into a class book of friendship.

•  Read Superheroes aloud and then talk to the class about teamwork. What happens to Mighty Max when Pinky quits being his sidekick? Do Max and Pinky have more fun adventures when they are apart or when they are together?

•  Show and read aloud the inside back flap of Superheroes, which lists the author’s dream superpowers including “being able to hear where candy is hidden.” Come up with a class superpower wish list and add to it throughout the year.

•  Host a class party Max and Pinky-style with lemonade and LOTS of marshmallows to go around. You can even have students dress up like a favorite or newly invented superhero.

•  Visit the Max and Pinky website download reproducible coloring sheets for your students.

And the reviews are in!

*“Wry and imaginative humor fills the pages. . . . Smart yet silly and accessible, this stands out in a sea of bland picture book stories about friends; kids will giggle their way through this introduction and look forward to the pair’s next outing”— The Bulletin, Starred

"Eaton offers a spry portrait of friendship."— Publishers Weekly
