Hello, Teachers!

Welcome to the Andrew Lost Classroom Club.

Congratulations! You’re teaching the wildest, most exciting subject in the elementary school curriculum—science. It’s also the most difficult. Unlike grammar and geography and math, some science questions have many answers and some have no answers! Even articulating good questions requires skills that kids may not yet have. Some seemingly simple concepts are abstract and hard to grasp.

Which materials and activities capture the fun and adventure of science while extending understanding? This Web site will provide you with a buffet of easy-to-use resources.

My name is Judith Greenburg and I’m the author of the humorous science adventure series, Andrew Lost. For almost 20 years, I’ve had the fun of working closely with scientists, asking questions about everything from the movement of continents to the colors of bubbles to how sea cucumbers manage to hurl their internal organs at predators—and survive!

I’ve also spent loads of time with teachers, children, and science specialists, studying the most effective and enjoyable ways of conveying science facts, building concepts, and sparking questions that send kids off on learning safaris.

You can use these resources to demonstrate and explain the extraordinary wonders of the everyday world—the unique, life-sustaining properties of water, the qualities of gases, the nature of sound, and much, much more. The activities are simple, the materials are inexpensive, the skills required are minimal, but the potential for learning is abundant.

We also include a gold mine of Web sites, videos, and CDs that will enrich your discussions and intrigue your students. We’ll be adding new materials all the time, so visit often!

Whatever you do, have fun with the Andrew Lost series, this Web site, and other materials you’ll find at www.AndrewLost.com. And please do get in touch with us to share ideas and suggestions. Send your e-mail to andrewlost@randomhouse.com

With every good wish,

J. C. Greenburg
