November 1, 2007Julie Grau, Senior Vice President and Publisher, was formerly Vice President and Publisher of Riverhead Books, where she edited numerous bestsellers including Blue Blood by Edward Conlon, Journals by Kurt Cobain, and several books by the #1 New York Times bestselling author, Suze Orman. Notable fiction writers she has published include Junot Díaz, Iain Pears, Jennifer Belle, Nuala O’Faolain, and Sarah Waters. Before she joined Riverhead in 1994 as a founding editor, she was an editor at Random House, where she worked with a range of authors, including Ann Beattie, Sandra Cisneros, Susanna Kaysen, and Anchee Min, among others.
Celina (Cindy) Spiegel, Senior Vice President and Publisher, was formerly Vice President and Publisher of Riverhead Books, where she edited Khaled Hosseini’s #1 New York Times bestseller The Kite Runner, James McBride’s #1 New York Times bestseller The Color of Water, and award-winning, bestselling books by Chang-rae Lee, Anne Lamott, Kathleen Norris, Harold Bloom, ZZ Packer, Alex Garland, Gary Shteyngart, Leonard Michaels, and Adam Langer, among others. Before coming to Riverhead as a founding editor, she worked at Ticknor & Fields (Houghton Mifflin) and in the Random House College Division.
Christopher Jackson, Executive Editor, has worked with award-winning and bestselling authors including Edwidge Danticat , Victor LaValle, David Corn, Jack Weatherford, Warren St. John, Aaron McGruder, Nancy Rawles, and Cupcake Brown.
Tina Pohlman, Senior Editor, Hardcovers, and Editorial Director, Paperbacks, was formerly Editorial Director of Harvest books, the paperback division of Harcourt. Prior to her time at Harcourt, Ms. Pohlman worked at Carroll & Graf and Anchor Books/Doubleday. Ms. Pohlman’s hardcover publications include Tony D’Souza’s critically acclaimed debut novel, Whiteman, Ted Kerasote’s bestselling Merle’s Door: Lessons from a Freethinking Dog, and Colson Whitehead’s The Intuitionist. Among her notable reprint acquisitions are Temple Grandin’s bestselling Animals in Translation, Christine Schutt’s debut novel, Florida (a National Book Award Finalist), Kelly Link’s Magic for Beginners, and Natalie Angier’s Woman: An Intimate Geography.
Michael Mezzo, Editor, was previously an associate editor at Little, Brown and Company, where he acquired and edited Dave King’s national bestseller, The Ha-Ha, and Dan Simmons’s national bestseller, The Terror, among other books.
Gretchen Koss, Director of Publicity, was formerly Associate Director of Publicity, Viking/Penguin. While there, she worked on bestselling publicity campaigns for Nathaniel Philbrick, Roddy Doyle, Melissa Bank, Terry McMillan, Mary Karr, Koren Zailckas, A.M. Homes, and Jasper Fforde. Prior to joining Viking/Penguin, Gretchen held publicity positions at Bantam, Farrar, Straus and Giroux, Knopf, and Delacorte.
Meghan Walker, Director of Marketing, was formerly Director of Ad/Promo for the Putnam, Riverhead, Tarcher, and Avery imprints of Penguin Group (USA). While there, she worked on the marketing campaigns of Patricia Cornwell, Tom Clancy, Nora Roberts, Lance Armstrong, Suze Orman, Nick Hornby, Edward Conlon, Sarah Waters, Chang-rae Lee, and Khaled Hosseini.
Hana Landes, Editorial Assistant, joined Spiegel & Grau in May 2007. She previously interned at Grove/Atlantic, Inc. She graduated from Princeton University in 2006.
Mya Spalter, Editorial Assistant, is a graduate of Eugene Lang College and co-founder of Drunk-N-Sailor press, a Brooklyn-based literary collective.
Kelsey Nencheck, Marketing Associate, joined Spiegel & Grau in February 2007 and has worked on promotions for Suze Orman’s Women & Money and Rebecca Stott’s Ghostwalk, among others. She was previously a senior associate at a marketing communications firm in Manhattan.
Lauren Lavelle, Assistant Publicist, joined Spiegel and Grau in February 2008 after participating in the Random House Associates Program as the Doubleday associate. She previously interned at BusinessWeek magazine and graduated from Saint Mary’s College in 2007.
