cover There are 19 kids in Ms. Fern's and Mrs. Weston's kindergarten class. One day, we took a trip to a farm. During class meeting, we put 11 eggs in the incubator. Every 21 days an egg hatches. The incubator has to be kept at 100 degrees. Every day, the kids turn over one egg. The kids have to wash their hands before turning over the eggs so the chicks won't die. Every egg has an X marked on it and that's where they'll break out of their shells. They break out of their shells by using their noses.

They can barely walk and can't fly right away. The chicks are wet and brown when they first come out. Then they turn fluffy and yellow when they dry.

The first chick is Max, who will be named after my best friend.

When the chickens grow up, my class will take another trip to the farm. We're going to give the chickens to Farmer Joe.

THE END.
