    1. Sunny Drohaan says:

I absolutely loved this book. I wish the characters were real as I would have so much enjoyed meeting them. I couldn’t put the book down and I am a slow reader. Read it in a few days.

I think a movie should be made. My instinct tells me that some of the characters of the the defunct TV show(sad)MEN IN TREES, would be perfect for this book. Anne Heche as Juliet and her husband in real life(Tupper) as her final love. Her publicist on MIT could be Susan or Sophie. Annie on the TV show could be Elizebeth. And some of the others would be great as well. I just know it. Her ex fiance o n the show could play the rich snob who tried to get Juliet to marry him. Men In Trees also had such a rich source of characters that you wanted to meet them as well.
      Wish this could happen.

    2. sally schwartz says:

      cool

    3. Kathie Smith says:

Great book. We listened to the “talking book” and simply were mesmerized with the story.

    4. Virginia Laddey says:

A second reading was a totally different experience from the first. I had been confused when reading fast, exactly who the writer and her friends were and who all the characters on Guernsey were. The second reading gave identity, depth, pathos and much humor.

    5. Janet Smith says:

My book group of 8 ladies is reading this book now for discussion at our meeting in June. We would like to enter the contest for a chance to win a trip to Guernsey. Thank you.

    6. A Jordan says:

We’re considering renaming our club the Austin literary and bourbon pecan pie society in honor of the book…

    7. Margaret Healy says:

Our Book Club bought and read the book, and loved it. A trip to Guernsey would be a wonderful enhancement of an already wonderful experience.

    8. Andrea says:

I stumbled on this site and now I’m intrigued!

    9. I found the book enchanting and very, very enjoyable. Patricia Miller

    10. bryon shaffer says:

      hope i win

    11. Sharon Lyon says:

I have always been drawn to epistolary work. My first inkling came watching the BBC Production “The Best of Friends”. Then the books about “Griffen and Sabine”… but “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society” was in a class by itself. Historical Fiction at it’s best. In fact I found myself dreaming about going back to the UK and visiting the “Islands”. I don’t know how it is I never knew about the occupation of these beautiful islands and their people… an eye opener to be sure , but now I am drawn to see, feel, smell, touch…(thanks to that online earth navigator, I can have a peek). Our book club, men and women aging from mid fifties to perhaps eighty ALL without exception loved the book and many had stories to tell we could hardly break up to go home. Thank you for the adventure and thanks too for the opportunity to enter this contest. Sincerely, Sharon Burton Lyon (Bethel, Maine Congregational Church Book Club)

    12. Pam Burklund says:

Our book club would love a visit to Guernsey.

Loved the book and would love to visit Guernsey.

    15. Julie Sears says:

      We loved the book!

    16. Joyce Crowder says:

Almost took this book back to the library because I didnt have enough time to read it. Now its all I can do for this weekend. Lovely story..I want to be Juliet!

    17. Karin van Bodegom says:

Would love to go to Guernsey to meet the book club gals! They live in the US and I live in The Netherlands (Europe) so I guess it would be a great opportunity for all of us to finally meet.

      Karin van Bodegom

    18. Betsy Reece says:

We’re discussing the book on June 12. I loved the book! I lean toward historical fiction and because my mom was a writer for our local newspaper and from the WWII era I really connected with Juliet. Although the subject was harsh and sad at times, it made me laugh out loud and it almost made me pine for an era gone by. I also had no idea that this island was occupied during the war and so isolated! Anyway, the book ranks up there with my top 10 (or 5!).

    19. Beverly Mathias says:

Love this book would love to tour the area

    20. Gene Mehl says:

I just finished reading the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and enjoyed the book. We are reading the book for our book club It is a very interesting and different type of book. It is both humerous and full of heartwarming stories.

    21. Anne says:

What a great contest! I’m definitely entering! After reading the book, my book club would really love to see the island itself firsthand!

    22. Kathleen says:

What a great contest! I am signing up right now. After reading this amazing book, I feel like I need to take a trip to Guernsey. It sounds like such a wonderful place.

    23. Belinda Meadows says:

We were not a quarter of the way through and I knew a trip to Guernsey had to be in our future. Then I found this contest link, and well, certain contests find their entrants…?

    24. Annette says:

Reading the book was a wonderful experience. I had minimal knowledge of what took place on Guernsey during and after the war, now I feel intimately engaged with the place and the people, albiet fictious. The writing style was enchanting and original. The book is flying off the shelves and everyone is discussing it. An author’s dream.

    25. molly divine says:

Would love to enter for our club in Portland, OR. We are reading and discussing the book this month. I can tell it will provide a full evening of discussion.

    26. Lara says:

My bookclub is reading “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society” in the month of June. I think that reading it will already take us there in spirit but travelling to Guernsey in person would be an incredible experience for 11 young moms who leave our daily stresses and share our hidden passions through reading.

    27. Mary Spalding says:

Our book club met last night and we discussed the book. We enjoyed the historical context of the book as none of us really knew that Guernsey was occupied by the Germans in WW2. Those of us who listened to the audio book seemed to like the book slightly better than the rest of our group. Some did not like the letter format. Others really liked the nostalgia of letter writing and information in the age of short e-mails and text messages. Others wondered at the age of Dawsey, but we thought he was probably about 10 years older than Juliet. I thought the character presentation was great and I wanted to meet the characters. I appreciated some of the humor in the unfolding of Elizabeth’s character, though she had a tragic end. In the end, it is nice to know that friendship in time of crisis can grow through the discussion of books.

    28. Margo Wells says:

What a great book! I read it quicker than I do most. I just could not put it down. I hate that I am through and cannot find out more. Our club would love the trip especially after reading such an intriguing story.

    29. Bettye Carpenter says:

My book club composed of teachers is discussing this book next Monday! As a former English teacher, the style of the book appealed to me! I could not put it down! As a world traveler, I find myself wishing to see the actual sites discussed in the book. What a treat this was to read!

    30. Ginny Ray says:

This book touched the soul of our book club as very few books have done. We tend to be critical and partial to our own favorite styles, but we all found something to love in Guerensey.

    31. Diana says:

I was thrilled to win a copy of Guernsey from Random House. Thank you Random House and Kathleen McAuliffe! I’m looking forward to reading it, as our book group chose Guernsey for our June selection. We’ve often spoken of taking a trip together, but have never actually done it. Winning a trip to Guernsey for our group would be wonderful!

    32. Lou Piotrowski says:

Our book club, The Hammock Literary Society & Serious Junk Food Guild, is discussing the book this evening. All reports are that all members (male and female) of our large neighborhood book club enjoyed the book. One of our members from England even had a child from Guernsey come stay with their family during the war, one of many children arriving in their town and randomly chosen at the train station. He was six at the time and the child from Guernsey was nine. Later he and his wife honeymooned on the island. We should have a wonderful discussion.
We would love to be included in the contest, but alas we all live in Florida and seem to be excluded by that fact.

    33. Janet Kent says:

The Brown Bag Book Group have already traveled to Guernsey…in their lovely readers’ minds. The book was beautifully written and grabbed their interest last year. They talked it up as “a title not to be missed” and we will be discussing it as a group in July. Whether we win a trip or not, we are enriched by this spectacular gift.

    34. Maureen Hart says:

I love books about reading and other books, so this one really appealed to me, and is such a perfect choice for a book group. Our group in Scranton, The Page Turners, is relatively new, and we would love to have a bonding experience in Guernsey. I looked at the island’s website and found it breathtakingly beautiful–now I want to re-read the book knowing what the sites look like. I should have done that first!
I am also a little embarrassed that I knew next to nothing about the occupation of the Channel Islands, and what these people endured. I’m glad this popular book is not only enjoyable, but it teaches us about a period of history that we should know and never forget….

    35. jeanne mitchell says:

Loved reading it and will recommend it to my book club when it is my turn to choose.

    36. Phyllis says:

So disappointed that residents of New York are not eligible to have the opportunity to enter the sweepstakes to visit Guernsey. Why is this? New York book clubs loved the book too!

    37. joyce says:

The Stitch Witches of Bethel have just finished GLPPS. It was loved by all and we want desperately to see and experience Guerensey. It was visualized so beautifully and populated with such wonderful characters. It was a revelation about the Occupation and how little was know of it. As much as we read about the WW II, it continues to shed new light on the horrors of war. Only the humor and humanity of the book softened the realities so we could keep our faith in our world.

    38. Deborah Dancer says:

I’ve been spending time getting to know the woman my mother was during WW2. A new bride, she wrote to her young husband every day, including the day she gave birth to their first child (his “son and heir”). I am spending time reading the war letters. These letters are a treasure as my mother was a delightful and profound correspondent. My mother, who passed away ten years ago would have enjoyed reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I did; it gave me an image of a slice of history that I’d never learned anything about. My father, who was stationed in England to fly bombing missions over Europe during that war, is reading it next. I know it will give him a different image of the war as well.

Plus, it’s a really, really good story.

What is telling for me is if I want to read parts of a book aloud to my husband. I wanted to read this one entirely to him.

    39. Sandy Post says:

This book was a great combination of quirky, lovable characters and a serious look at how children, individuals and families were affected by WW II. It was a great and easy read.

    40. Helen says:

My book club will be reading “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society” this summer as our September book pick. What a great treat to be able to win this contest and visit Guerensey in October. We are all entering.

    41. Martha Lotz says:

Our club discussed this book today and agreed that it was one of the most informative and enjoyable books we have read. We loved the epistolary style and the variety of characters. We would be thrilled to visit Guernsey.

    42. I bought this book for a friend at Christmas. Next thing I know I hear friends saying have you read “The Gurnsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society”? I hadn’t so I got the book for myself. I fell in love with the characters. Especially Dawsey and Juliet. I could picture myself living on the island of Guernsey. Well I made my book club read the book. They are in the process right now. I would be honored to visit Guernsey. Thank you.
      Sincerely,
      Kathleen Durr

    43. I am one of the founders of our group, The Happy Bookers, and can’t
wait for our our group to read this in the Fall! It came highly recommended to me by several other friends and indeed it was
quite a read! I was not familiar with The Channel Islands and
was quite taken with what they endured during the war. I too
have my bag packed and can leave for Guernsey at a moment’s
      notice!

    44. Rowena Dunlap Burke says:

I’m considering relocating outside of Rhode Island so I can enter this contest!

I love this book and have recommended it to a ton of people at my library, plus my girl cousins, stepmother, sisters, etc…. I am already an island girl, so I guess I should not be feeling too sorry about this state of affairs-

      RowenaRI

    45. Maryrose says:

I knew I wanted to plan a trip to Guernsey a few pages into the book.
Hope I can get there before the movie is made.
      So much fun reading.

    46. Lori Rae says:

Just wish our Book Club had an unusual name to recommend itself, but that regret being about all we regret, be assured we would represent book clubs well if chosen to make this trip. There are twelve of us who meet once a month for wine, supper, books, & desert. We choose our book two months in advance from three presented. GLAPPPS is our July book. The person who presented it will be presenting author biographies, published reviews and leading the discussion – not that it is likely to lag when this book is under discussion. More likely we will find ourselves wondering where the evening went and will find ourselves having to call it a night in order to function the following day.
If chosen, not only would our group enjoy the trip, it would give us an unique opportunity to enjoy each other’s company. In preparation, we would apply ourselves to the history of the Channel Islands in general and Guernsey and the occupation in particular with the same dedication we reserve for our Club.

    47. The Longmont Library Book Club reviewed the book today and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. I, personally, would have like to keep on reading about these people a lot longer. I wanted to see what else Mary Ann had written, but alas, she had passed away. I was truly disappointed to learn that. I was raised by the water, but now live in CO and would love a chance to see Guernsey, (which is on the water) where this story took place.

    48. Kathy H. says:

What a wonderful book. Once I got started I couldn’t stop. I too love to meanderer. One thing in the book that interest you, does lead to another and another book or place of interest. Guernsey, it people, the country side, the Germans, WW II. See I’ve already gone places I wouldn’t of imagined.

At our book club July 27th, I will be the host. I plan to bake a Potato Peel Pie,
that should in it self make for a good discussion.

I didn’t know if I would like reading a Novel composed of letters. But there is nothing like the written words from a friend or love one. Using the stationary provide on your web site. I even sent a “LETTER” to a friend. We just do not write letters anymore.

I recommended this book to her and for her book club.

    49. Mary Osborn says:

      A lovely read!!!

    50. Patricia Aschenbrenner says:

      Great Read!
