Official Sweepstakes Rules & Regulations

I. HOW TO ENTER
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Visit www.noshortcutstothetop.com and fill out the online entry form with your name, address, phone number and date of birth, or return your sweepstakes postcard with this information filled-in. One entry per person allowed.  Mechanically reproduced entries not accepted. In the event of a dispute about entries submitted by multiple individuals using the same e-mail account, entry will be deemed to have been submitted by the authorized subscriber of the e-mail account used to enter the Sweepstakes at the actual time of entry.  The authorized e-mail account subscriber is deemed to be the natural person who is assigned an e-mail address by an Internet access provider, online service provider, or other organization that is responsible for assigning e-mail addresses or the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address.  Entries generated by script, macro, robotic, programmed or any other automated means are prohibited and will be disqualified.  The sweepstakes begins November 27, 2007 and final submissions are due by 11:59pm (Eastern Daylight Time) on March 1, 2008.

II. ELIGIBILITY
Sweepstakes is open to legal residents of the United States and Canada who are at least 18 years of age on November 27, 2007, excluding all residents of Rhode Island and Quebec, and all Random House, Sole, Timberland Outdoor Performance, Mountain Hardwear, and LEKI employees and affiliates. Entries received from persons residing in geographic areas in which entry is not permitted will be disqualified.  All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. Void wherever prohibited or restricted by law.

III. PRIZES
1st GRAND PRIZE WINNER will win an Outdoor Kit including: one signed copy of NO SHORCUTS TO THE TOP by Ed Viesturs with David Roberts (ISBN: 9780767924719) in paperback, one Timberland Cadion XCR Boot (sized to the winner’s needs), one pair of LEKI Trekking Poles: 2038-07 Super Makalu, one Mountain Hardwear Hammerhead 2 Tent, and a Sole Expedition Pack that contains one pair of Ed Viesturs Signature Edition Sole Footbeds (fit to the winner’s needs), two pairs of Sole Lightweight White Sport Socks, and a Sole Water Bottle. Approximate Retail Value of this prize is  $445.00

3rd GRAND PRIZE WINNER will win an Outdoor Kit including: one signed copy of NO SHORCUTS TO THE TOP by Ed Viesturs with David Roberts (ISBN: 9780767924719) in paperback, one Timberland Cadion XCR Boot (sized to the winner’s needs), one Mountain Hardwear Lightpath 2 Tent, and a Sole Expedition Pack that contains a pair of Ed Viesturs Signature Edition Sole Footbeds (sized to the winner’s needs), two pairs of Sole Lightweight White Sport Socks, and a Sole Water Bottle. Approximate Retail Value of this prize is  $395.00

50 RUNNER-UP WINNERS will each win one copy of NO SHORCUTS TO THE TOP by Ed Viesturs with David Roberts (ISBN: 9780767924719) in paperback, two pairs of Sole Lightweight White Sport Socks, one Sole Water Bottle, one LEKI Bandana, and one Mountain Hardwear Stout Baseball Cap Approximate Retail Value of this prize is  $45.00.

ALL WINNERS will be randomly selected.

IV. WINNER
All winners will be notified on or around March 31, 2008. The winners will be notified by email, mail or telephone and will be required to sign and return affidavit(s) of eligibility and release of liability within 14 days of notification. A noncompliance within that time period or the return of any notification as undeliverable will result in disqualification and the selection of an alternate winner. In the event of any other noncompliance with rules and conditions, prizes may be awarded to an alternate winner. Taxes, if any, are the winner's sole responsibility. RANDOM HOUSE RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SUBSTITUTE PRIZES OF EQUAL OR GREATER VALUE IF PRIZES, AS STATED ABOVE, BECOME UNAVAILABLE.

V. ADDITIONAL PROVISIONS
Random House assumes no responsibility for any error; omission; interruption; deletion; defect; delay in operation or transmission; communications-line failure; or the theft destruction, unauthorized access to or alteration of entries. Random House is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines; computer online systems, servers, or providers; computer equipment or software; or failure of e-mail or entry on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any Web site or combination thereof, including injury or damage to the participant's or to any person's computer related to or resulting from participating or downloading materials from this Web site or sweepstakes. By entering the sweepstakes, participants are consenting to be added to Broadway Books mailing lists for future promotions and for the use of their name for publicity and promotional purposes on behalf of Random House Inc. with no additional compensation or further permission (except where prohibited by law).

VI: WINNERS LIST: For the names of the winners, available after March 31, 2008, please send a stamped, self addressed envelope to: Julie Sills, No Shortcuts to the Top Sweepstakes, 1745 Broadway, Mail Drop 22.1, New York, NY 10019. Washington and Vermont residents may omit return postage.

VII: GOVERNING LAW:  All disputes and questions regarding the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of any participant or the Sponsor, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New York, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules or provisions that would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than New York. The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these Official Rules shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision. If any such provision is determined to be invalid or otherwise unenforceable, these Official Rules shall be construed in accordance with their terms as if the invalid or unenforceable provision was not contained therein.
