Pantheon Funny Book Tour is a Huge Hit in Texas

AUSTIN, TX - September 20, 2000 - Graphic artists Chris Ware, Daniel Clowes and editor/designer Chip Kidd came to Austin's independent bookstore, BookPeople on Tuesday, September 19 to support Pantheon titles Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid in the Word and David Boring. Crowds upwards of 200 people pressed in to the third floor signing area to meet the artists. "This was a huge event for BookPeople," said Marketing Director Jeremy Ellis. "We were so honored that these guys came here and were thrilled that the community came out in such force."

The artists were very surprised by the number of people in attendance. "The shock on their faces was apparent, and very funny," according to Head Buyer Peggy Hailey. Fans, some carrying armfuls of books, stood in line for 3 hours while Ware, Clowes and Kidd signed everything. "We love for customers to bring in back-list titles for the authors to sign," said Dara Wolkovich, Events Coordinator. "And these guys were putting drawings and signatures on everything. I don't think a single person minded the wait for that."
