Are comic books really an art form?

Well, The Hammer Museum and The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles thought so, leading them to jointly host Masters of American Comics, an exhibition that eventually made its way to the New York area.

Now, Time’s Richard Corliss weighs in on that very exhibition, citing Jules Feiffer and Art Spiegelman along the way.
